I have heard what seems like thousands of times that the Sox need to address the outfield. But, I disagree...
An outfield with Duran, Verdugo and Enrique Hernandez I believe could compete with any team in the big leagues. Now, I know Duran didn't impress his first taste of the big leagues, but he has the tools to be a solid big leaguer.
In the minor leagues, Duran has wheels. Last year, he had 16 stolen bases in only 60 games, and has stolen 20+ the previous two(he had 46 in 2019). In other words, he has plus-plus speed and that is something that this current Red Sox team is lacking.
Add to that, he gained some pop. He could reasonably be a 20 homerun guy, and score 100 runs. I know Sox fans are pessimistic, but let's try to give the guy a chance. 33 games isn't enough to write a guy off. So, let's give him 2022 to prove that he can adjust to big league pitching and play at a minimum average defense.
If I am wrong, you can come right back to this post and I will eat my words. But, I read recently that we need a new Jacoby Ellsbury, and all I can go back to is when Duran hit it into the triangle and turned a triple into an inside-the-park homerun(even though it was officially registered as a triple).
